FIV Feline Immunodeficiency Virus Cats Saved in Japan

I’m sure you have thought about the perfect cat - the right color, look, size, and personality.

It’s nice to read about some who are looking out for cats with FIV. Makes me feel good about being a cat lover.

Japan leads world in rate of feline equivalent to HIV

Around Yokosuka’s shelter they’re affectionately called the “AIDS kitties.”Two cats with the feline equivalent of HIV, called FIV for feline immunodeficiency virus, recently found their way to Pets Are Worth Saving shelter at Yokosuka Naval Base.Maru is one of them. The fat lap cat now lives with Petty Officer 3rd Class Steven Haynes and his wife, Alison, at Yokosuka Naval Base. They are adopting the male tom and don’t mind his species-specific disease. The other cat, Maggie, was adopted by a Japanese resident.

That’s a wonderful story! I wish people knew more about FIV and were more open to adopting cats with it. I have an FIV cat living with three other non-FIV cats, the uninfected have regular shots and live with our other cat very well. FIV kitties need special homes too and they are just as wonderful as other cats!
